Introduction

If you ever wanted to visit a place where East meets West, where people have suffered a lot but still manage to be friendly and happy, where nature remains untouched, where history is being respected and passed as a golden medal, where food is to be enjoyed and coffee is one of the main bonding ingredients, then you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to spend 5 days in a heart-shaped land, located in the Western Balkans peninsula, the land called Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is where you’ll see the Bosnian kingdom remains, the Ottoman legacy in culture, Austro-Hungarian architecture, and modern-day life co-existing as one.

Day 1

Sarajevo for beginners

Your driver will meet and greet you at the Sarajevo International Airport and take you to your hotel for check-in. After getting settled, you’ll meet your guide with whom you’ll have the opportunity to see Sarajevo from an insider’s perspective. He will take you through the 16th-century part of the city and show you the hidden gems of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the tour dinner will be organised in a traditional restaurant located in the old part of town, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the city from your guide that will be hosting this dinner. At the end of the first day free time for shopping and personal activities.

Back to the hotel and overnight.

Day 2

Medieval Herzegovina(cca 320km) HB

After breakfast, a day trip to Herzegovina where we will visit Konjic, a small town that is still preserving the Ottoman landscapes and houses from that time, continue our trip to Mostar that is the biggest city in Herzegovina and enjoy the breathtaking view over the Old Bridge on Neretva River. In the afternoon hours, we will visit the small town of Blagaj which tells the story of Medieval times, and Ottoman times but is hospitable to modern tourists. Lunch with the beautiful view at the Tekki (Dervish house) where you can taste the most delicious trout caught from the river you will be having lunch next to. For the best view of the Neretva River, we will climb high to the tower of

The old medieval town Počitelj and see the core of Duke’s land. Perfect day trip to feel the Mediterranean experience, wrapped in vineyards, old tales, and high towers.

In the afternoon hours back to Sarajevo overnight.

Day 3

Highlights of Central Bosnia (cca 317km) HB

On the third day of your trip, after breakfast, we will visit the Central part of Bosnia. This part of the country is the 7oldest and it contains lots of old cities that are still crowned with their fortresses. For this reason, we want to take you first to Travnik, a city that stands hidden in the valley of Lašva River. One part of it is consisted of old Ottoman architecture with perfectly preserved houses that can be found in the old cities, and on the other side is the fortress that is overlooking the city and gives you the opportunity to see the north and the south. Here’s where we’ll have a coffee, at the same cafe where Ivo Andric used to have it. He was born in this city, and for that reason, we’ll visit his birth home since he’s the most famous Bosnian writer that won the

Nobel Prize for Literature. After this we will continue up north, to visit one more old, Medieval, city. Jajce, a small city located above the waterfall on river Pliva, which still has the old fortress of the Kingdom of Bosnia at the top. Jajce used to be the capital of the Kingdom, and its citadel still stands tall. Lunchtime in the old traditional house.

After the full day tour back to Sarajevo for overnight.

Day 4

„Sarajevo Crafting“ + Cable Car HB

After breakfast, you are gonna become a craftsman and have the opportunity to make your own souvenir. Our first workshop is a unique experience in making one yourself. A simple bookmark? Cool earnings? Full coffee set with the panorama of Sarajevo? You can make it all by yourself (and with a bit of help from our local copper smiths that have been practising how to work with copper for the past 500 years). This workshop will get your hands dirty, literally, but for a positive cause. You will bring with you a piece of Sarajevo, and not just physical stuff, but also the knowledge and historical values of those crafts. Continue for our second workshop known as „Cooking with Local “. This educational workshop takes roughly 4 hours, you know that cooking demands time, especially this fine cooking of traditional Bosnian meals. But do not worry, you’ll be mixing, stuffing, rolling and baking so the time will go by really fast. By the end of the lessons you’ll be super overwhelmed by all the scents and you’ll definitely be ready to taste that delicious homemade meal. All of our veggies and materials are organic, so you can consider that this is going to be your healthy and balanced meal. Last but not least workshop is „Fildžan viška“ where you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about ćejf, muhabet, sevdah, ašikluk and many more activities that are tied to coffee drinking and it’s enjoyment.

The educational workshop takes one hour and it gives excellent insight in the history of coffee making and drinking, in it’s influence on culture, religion and science in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Activities that shouldn’t be missed

include coffee roasting, manual grinding and boiling, and at the end you get rewarded with unique scents and tastes. After a great time spend with the locals, we will visit Olympic Mountain Trebević and we’ll do that by using the famous Sarajevo Cable Car.

The end of the day back to the hotel for overnight.

Details

activities

For the final day (if the stay is prolonged to 6 days in total) we recommend activities such as hiking or rafting.

Bosnian nature is still pretty wild and, in some areas, even the old traditional lifestyle is being practised. For this reason, we want our guests to connect with nature and experience some of the unique spots we have here.

Please note that the choice of the additional options will affect the total price from above and an additional £45,00 for accommodation in Sarajevo will be needed (5th night in the same hotel on BB base).

1st option „Lukomir hike“ (cca 55km by bus / cca 20km hike on both sides – 5 hours of active walk) Someone who loves hiking, history and once-in-a-lifetime experiences should NOT miss Lukomir village.

We know that all places are unique, but this one brings a different feeling, it makes you stop and think about all the perks of modern life, it makes you see the past and it’s like a visit to an open museum. Exceptional hike, breathtaking views, fresh air and mild sun, followed by a homemade meal in the last Bosnian highland village.

Lukomir was presented by National Geography, Travel Channel, and plenty of guidebooks, but nothing gives it justice as living a day in this incredible place. We’re in love with it, our roots are from this spot, and you won’t find a better source to tell you about living here.

Price is not included in the original offer, and it requires an additional £ 59,00 per person. This price includes.

  • Transportation from Sarajevo to the starting point of the hike, and back,
  • local hiking guide,
  • homemade meal for lunch (with a local family),
  • coffee/tea

2nd option – „Neretva rafting“ (cca 60km by bus / cca 18km rafting distance)

Neretva River is one of the coolest places in Bosnia and Herzegovina, literally, since it’s believed that this is one of the coldest rivers in the world with summer temperatures around 8 degrees Celsius. But don’t be scared, it’s perfect for the Mediterranean climate it flows through, you will be happy that it’s that cold. The water is so clear that you will be able to see the river floor 15 meters below you and drink the water directly as you raft down the river.

Rafting itself takes around 4 hours, you will get the opportunity to experience barbecuing at the banks of the river, and you will definitely try to swim in its joining mountain streams.

Price is not included in the original offer, and it requires an additional £79,00 per person. This price includes.

  • transportation from Sarajevo to the starting point of the rafting, and back
  • white water rafting on Neretva River/level IV rafting experience,
  • barbecue for lunch,
  • coffee/tea
