Accommodation Tulia Hotel
Day 2 Arusha – Tarangire
Tour Briefing:
After Breakfast at the hotel – We will provide you with all the essential information, before we set off to our first safari destination, the diverse Tarangire National Park, where we will enjoy lunch, take an afternoon game drive and spend the night.
Journey: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Our two-hour morning journey first takes us westwards from Arusha. Along the route, your eyes will be opened to all the colours and character of Tanzania: perhaps some Maasai herdsmen driving their flocks of goats to new pastures. You will get to know your driver-guide, amazed at his depth of knowledge as he effortlessly answers all your questions.
Day’s Highlight
Your game drive in Tarangire, with its incredible diversity, massive baobab trees and herds of elephants.
Safari (Game Drive) in Tarangire National Park
Your game drives to Tarangire National Park, best known for its large elephant population and the majestic baobab trees that dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. After settling into your safari lodge, grab your camera and meet your expert ranger to set out for a late afternoon game drive. Tonight, you will be immersed in the African safari experience as you dine beneath the stars. (BLD)
Accommodation: Lake Burunge Tented Lodge
Be a privileged spectator from this luxury camp on the shores of Lake Burunge.
From the elegant wooden central platform where the Lake Burunge Tented Lodge restaurant stands it is possible to watch the lakeshore waiting for the animals that come to drink there.
Because the camp is strategically located in the natural corridor between Manyara and Tarangire, so the spectacle of the migration it is guaranteed. The camp is located 10 minutes from the entrance to the park known as Sangaiwe.
Day 3 & 4 Tarangire – Serengeti National Park
Journey: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park
With Serengeti as our destination, and with the wonders of Tarangire still fresh in your mind, we set out to the north and west for our 4-hour journey. On the way, you can quiz your driver-guide about all aspects of Tanzanian culture, traditions, tribes and of course wildlife. Treat him as an ‘encyclopaedia on legs’ – he will rarely disappoint with his answers! In no time, you too will feel like an expert, even before you reach the awesome Serengeti plains. On arrival, we take lunch before embarking on our afternoon game-drive.
Day’s Highlight
Serengeti is a National Park which will offer you a whole variety of wildlife surprises over the next few days, but perhaps today’s highlight – certainly for first-time visitors – will simply be the Serengeti terrain itself. The sheer vastness, as the plains roll away in front of you into eternity, will leave you with a sense of awe.
Safari in Serengeti National Park
Depart early in the morning for your first game drive of the day. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at camp until the day cools down and the animals become more active before setting out for your afternoon game drive. (BLD)
Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Camp
Explore Serengeti Ecosystem from Kati Kati Tented Camp.
Kati Kati is a mobile camp strategically situated in central Serengeti, ideal for exploring the extensive Serengeti plains. The camp offers comfortable accommodation together with the unique opportunity to enjoy a real safari experience on a camp. In its comfortable tents one will feel completely immersed in the surroundings and one can enjoy the rich animal life and vegetation of the area.
Day 5 Serengeti National Park
Day’s Highlight
Again, our highlight is waiting to reveal itself. But do look out for the magnificent sight of the world’s heaviest bird capable of flight, the Kori Bustard. The avian equivalent of a lumbering cargo plane, it can weigh up to 15kg and has a wingspan of nearly three metres!
Safari in Serengeti National Park
During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to the locations where you can observe the wildlife quietly and at your leisure. Watch the many species of game grazing in close proximity to your camp as the sun sets over the savanna. (BLD).
Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Camp
After your day of thrilling game drives, your driver will return you safely for another relaxing night your Serengeti accommodation (see above). Drink, relax, dine, and sleep, all out in the wilderness of the Serengeti.
Meal plan
Breakfast is served at your Serengeti accommodation. Lunch will be a cooked, hot lunch prepared by the camp team, for you to enjoy while out on safari. Your dinner will be a full, cooked meal prepared at your accommodation.
Day 6 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro
Journey: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After a morning game drive and lunch, this afternoon we will head south-east towards Ngorongoro, a distance of 145km which will take us around 3 ½ hours.
Day’s Highlight
Today, we will get our first sight of the spectacular, incomparable Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and the heart of the Conservation Area of the same name. But before that, we have another morning game drive in amazing Serengeti, marvelling at its animal inhabitants. Another day of adventure, another day to enjoy the wildlife.
Safari in Serengeti National Park
After our morning game drive, perhaps trying to find any animal that has – until now – been elusive enough to evade your eagle-eyed driver-guide, we head south-east towards Ngorongoro. If it has not already struck you with its vastness, Serengeti’s ‘endless plains’ will certainly now make a deep impression on you as we take the long, straight road which passes Simba Kopjes (famous from ‘The Lion King’) to reach Naabi Hill Gate, close to the divide between Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Here you can gather information at the gate’s visitor centre, clamber up the hill for superb views back over the plains, or look out for a colourful agama lizard among the rocks.
Accommodation: Tortilis Ngorongoro Camp
Our Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp is only a 20km drive from the crater itself (around 40 minutes), set beneath an atmospheric acacia ‘umbrella,’ located in dense, sloping woodland and adjacent to a traditional Maasai community. Some will call the set-up here ‘glamping’, and it certainly offers a great level of comfort, considering the wilderness location.
Meal plan
Breakfast is enjoyed at the Serengeti Kati Kati Camp. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, enjoyed at Serengeti. Your dinner will be a delicious meal at the Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Kilimanjaro International Airport
Journey: Ngorongoro – Kilimanjaro International Airport
After our morning visit to the incomparable crater – see below – and then lunch, we will have a 4-hour journey, covering the 250km back to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Day’s Highlight
Like nothing else on Earth, the stunning crater of Ngorongoro is a unique home for many, many species of Tanzania’s wildlife. With some luck, you may even see a black rhino here.
Safari in Ngorongoro Crater
From our accommodation, we set off after breakfast, a 6am departure to reach the rim and then descend some 2,000 feet to explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano. You will be in awe of the wildlife concentrated here. Zoom in on the elephants wandering along well-worn tracks. Listen for the roaring lion guarding its large pride. Gazelle quietly graze, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, and you might spot the endangered rhino feeding down by the lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your camp. (BLD)
