In this dramatic journey of western Mongolian 12 days tour, we will explore the beautiful Western Mongolian Altai mountains & steppes, glaciers, golden eagle & hunters and a visit to Mongolian, Kazakh and Tuvan nomads so you can learn about the nomadic way of life. In addition, western Mongolia is rich in archaeological sites that vary from ancient petroglyphs to stone carvings from the early Turkic invasion.
All luggage and equipment for this tour will be loaded onto pick camels or horses, which are provided by the local herders and local nomads who will lead us on this journey to the heart of the Altai Mountain. No support vehicle will follow in this rugged and road-less territory on our trek in the Altai Mountain.

Day 1 

Journey to Ulaanbaatar

Arrival at the airport, meeting with our driver. Transfer to your hotel, settle in and rest. He will take you to the restaurant. Let’s immerse ourselves in the heart of Mongolian history, in the wonderful National History Museum. Three floors of a rich, glorious, violent and noble past, from prehistory to the Soviet period, including the creation of the great Mongolian Empire by Genghis Khan. Walk in the centre of Ulan-Bator. Discovery of Gengis Khan Square and the House of Parliament. Than Mongolian traditional show at Tumen Ekh: folkloric dances, contortion, and of course khoomi, the overtone singing. Welcome dinner in a Mongolian-style restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 2

Domestic flight to Ulgii

Arrive in Ulgii city and transfer to Hotel. After lunch, we drive to Tavan Bogd National park. Along the way, we will find numerous petroglyphs and Turkic stones and a picnic lunch. Bayan-Ulgii is rich in archaeological remains, as a reminder of the Bronze Age and the time of the Huns and Turkic invasions. Reach to Ger camp. Overnight intent or yurt. B/L/D

Days 3-4

Tavan Bogd massif (17 km up and 17 km down)

These days we hike and during the hiking, we can see the glaciers and Tavan Bogd massif. Tavan Bogd means “The Holy Five”, referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. There we see a 20km long Potanina glacier – the biggest of the twenty glaciers in Mongolian Altai. Overnight in a tent. Next day (4th day)- To the top of the Malchin peak- Today we will take a day hike to the Malchin peak (4050m). Malchin peak is one of the five peaks of the Tavan Bogd mountain on the Mongolia-Russian border. Non-technical climbing mountain. Breathtaking view from the top of the mountain. Overnight in a tent. Day 5


Hike back from the Base camp and reach to Ranger station. Walking back will take 3 hours so we will stay at the ranger station with Tuban nomads. Overnight in a tent. B/L/D


Day 6

Hoton lake

Today we drive to Hoton lake. We will pitch our camp near the Nomadic family. We are now only 10km from the China border. Overnight in Kazakh yurt or tent. B/L/D

Day 7  

Day with nomads

Today you relax and swim, fish and explore the amazing mountainous areas. These days you can see and learn regular day life of nomads and their traditions. Fishing and hiking around. Also, we see the snowcapped mountains with forests, which make the wall between China and Mongolia and some beautiful waterfalls. Overnight in Kazakh yurt. B/L/D


Days 8-9

Kazakh Eagle hunter's family

Drive back towards Ulgii and arrive at Kazakh Eagle hunter’s family. See the magnificent eagles and learn about eagle-hunting. Eagle-hunters typically use female birds because they are bigger, stronger, and more aggressive than their male counterparts. Hunters typically keep their birds for 10 years before releasing them back into the wild. We will spend two days with Eagle hunter’s family. Overnight in Kazakh yurt. B/L/D

Day 10

Drive to South River camp

We will spend one full day resting at a “South River” camp. Here in the “South River” camp, we have a shower, free Wi-Fi, and a small traditional Kazakh souvenir shop. Also around camp, you may have the opportunity to see some wild animals such as Argal sheep, Ibex, fox, and rabbit. Overnight in ger camp. B/L/D

Day 11

Return to Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Ulgii city and fly back to UB. Arrive in town and settle in at your hotel, where you can rest a few moments. The rest of the day is free. With our guide, you can go and shop in the centre of the city. Overnight in a hotel. /B/L/D

Day 12

End of tour

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the international airport of Ulaanbaatar. The transfer can be organized at the time you want, according to the schedule of your flight.

(K2) tourist visa with single or double entry for up to 30 days:

  1. Application form (must be completed, signed and dated)
  2. Passport in original (must be valid for a minimum of six months before your intended travel to Mongolia)
  3. Passport size photo (1 piece of 3.5х4.5 cm size most recent photo glued on the application form)
  4. Printed confirmation of flight/train tickets

Visa fee and service charge:
